What is a Hypocrite?

I’ll bet you have never seen this before.

The word means pretender, faker, or actor. Around 400 B.C. in Athens, the great orator Demosthenes described his rival Aeschines as a hypocrite. He was a successful actor before taking up politics and he had great skill in impersonating characters on stage. Demosthenes said it made Aeschines an untrustworthy politician. Politicians today are superior hypocrites, great actors. Reagan was one. Obama pulled the wool over everyone’s eyes with his smooth words and he could lie to your face and act like he even believed it himself! Do you know any politicians today that are hypocrites? My guess is that most of them are.

From the Merriam Webster Dictionary: “The Greek word took on an extended meaning to refer to any person who was wearing a figurative mask in pretending to be someone or something they were not.”

And here we are today, many thousands of years later, where almost everyone lies like a stinking rug! No one seems to have any morals anymore… or a conscience for that matter, especially on social media and the internet. I’ve seen “20 somethings” all pretending to be able to read charts like pro traders with thirty years of experience and claiming to make 5 to 6 figures a day; buying followers, creating dozens of fake accounts, talking to themselves on Twitter and posting positive comments. All of this for others to see so that it makes them look good and so they can lure in and dupe suckers to either pay them for their expertise, when in reality they don’t know anything, or they in to giving them money to trade. It’s like that evil liar “trader Robertson” who I blasted the heck out of about a year ago. In case you do not know, he lied like a dog and suckered in many folks into giving him serious money. One I know of lost 50K bucks in a few days. The man just blew it all away on huge gambling “trades”. I have heard so many stories it would make you puke. Folks have been decimated by stuff like this.

We even have some people on Twitter going around parading themselves as decent, honest, caring folks trying to “expose” all the “bad guys” and these people are some of the worst hypocrites of all. Former criminals that stole millions and went to jail for it are (supposedly) now revealing all the bad guys; pots calling the kettles black! They are blasting everyone for affiliate marketing and yet they themselves secretly affiliate market for scammer traders! I know. I know it sounds incredible but I actually know one guy who does that. Here are a few examples of hypocrisy. Let’s talk about this, shall we?

In the time of Jesus, he blasted the scribes and pharisees for being hypocrites. They claimed to know God, but in reality they were fakers. Jesus blasted the living tar out of them with his words, calling them a generation of vipers and saying “how can ye escape the damnation of hell”. He once said “Ye are of your father the Devil and the lusts of your father ye will do!” I cannot expect that the “religious” fake leaders of his day liked him very much.

Oh yeah, they crucified him for that. Now I remember.

Many years later…

Paul describes the Jews as hypocrites in his letter to the Romans Chapter 2. I’m sorry; this is just so, so, so good… you really truly should read this for yourself! Take 3-5 minutes, read this and think… and your eyes shall be opened.

Romans 2:

1 Therefore thou art inexcusable, O man, whosoever thou art that judgest: for wherein thou judgest another, thou condemnest thyself; for thou that judgest doest the same things.

(When you judge someone for doing something but secretly you’re guilty as hell because you’re doing the same things, you condemn yourself! You are without excuse.)

2 But we are sure that the judgment of God is according to truth against them which commit such things.

(God will get you for it.)

3 And thinkest thou this, O man, that judgest them which do such things, and doest the same, that thou shalt escape the judgment of God?

(No, God is going to get you for it.)

4 Or despisest thou the riches of his goodness and forbearance and longsuffering; not knowing that the goodness of God leadeth thee to repentance?

(Do you hate God because he is good and puts up with your sorry butt for a long time?)

5 But after thy hardness and impenitent heart treasurest up unto thyself wrath against the day of wrath and revelation of the righteous judgment of God;

(God is a righteous judge and he will judge you 2 seconds after you draw your last breath and if you have a hard and impenitent heart there is no mercy for you; you are treasuring up wrath against that coming Day of Judgment.)

6 Who will render to every man according to his deeds:

(Oh boy. It looks like a payday is coming!)

7 To them who by patient continuance in well doing seek for glory and honor and immortality, eternal life:

(Be good and do right!)

8 But unto them that are contentious, and do not obey the truth, but obey unrighteousness, indignation and wrath,

(Want to fight about it huh? Do you like to mock God and his true followers? Do you like to be contentious and not obey what the Bible says? Fine. Go for it. Your payday of indignation and wrath is waiting for you. You will instantly be a bible believer 2 seconds after you draw your very last breath.)

9 Tribulation and anguish, upon every soul of man that doeth evil, of the Jew first, and also of the Gentile;

(Evil is recompense!)

10 But glory, honor, and peace, to every man that worketh good, to the Jew first, and also to the Gentile:

(Good works are recompensed!)

11 For there is no respect of persons with God.

(God does not respect you at all. You will be dealt with according to his words. Period.)

12 For as many as have sinned without law shall also perish without law: and as many as have sinned in the law shall be judged by the law;

13 For not the hearers of the law are just before God, but the doers of the law shall be justified.

(Hearing is great but doing is a million times better.)

14 For when the Gentiles, which have not the law, do by nature the things contained in the law, these, having not the law, are a law unto themselves.

15 Which shew the work of the law written in their hearts, their conscience also bearing witness, and their thoughts the mean while accusing or else excusing one another;

(I see people accuse each other all the time. It’s like this: “You see …. I did not commit that sin… oh!” “How could you, you … evil sinner you!” “But wait… what is that you say? Oh … you had sex with 90 women out of wedlock? Oh, well that is OK because you know… we all do it brother!” “God knows. I mean he would not have made us desire it so badly if it was evil.”  “It’s OK. Pat, pat on the back.” Get it? If your sins are worse than mine in my eyes, I condemn you…. and if I committed the very same sins you did, well… we are OK because I did it too. Get it? Accusing or excusing one another. Are you guilty? Have you condemned someone for something because it was just sooooo bad (meaning you never did that one)? Have you excused others when they told you something they did because you did it too a hundred times over?

16 In the day when God shall judge the secrets of men by Jesus Christ according to my gospel.

(Your secrets get brought to the light.)

17 Behold, thou art called a Jew, and restest in the law, and makest thy boast of God,

(Here we go! Here comes the hypocrisy. Trusting in the law and keeping the law!)

18 And knowest his will, and approvest the things that are more excellent, being instructed out of the law;

19 And art confident that thou thyself art a guide of the blind, a light of them which are in darkness,

(But of course, just look at how fine and upstanding I am. Yeah, right!)

20 An instructor of the foolish, a teacher of babes, which hast the form of knowledge and of the truth in the law.

21 Thou therefore which teachest another, teachest thou not thyself? Thou that preachest a man should not steal, dost thou steal?

22 Thou that sayest a man should not commit adultery, dost thou commit adultery? Thou that abhorrest idols, dost thou commit sacrilege?

23 Thou that makest thy boast of the law, through breaking the law dishonourest thou God?

(Well? Do you?  Are you a hypocrite? Do you go around lying to others and yourself?)

24 For the name of God is blasphemed among the Gentiles through you, as it is written.

25 For circumcision verily profiteth, if thou keep the law: but if thou be a breaker of the law, thy circumcision is made uncircumcision.

26 Therefore if the uncircumcision keep the righteousness of the law, shall not his uncircumcision be counted for circumcision?

(If a person who is not a Jew does right and the Jews do wrong shall not that person be counted worthy?)

27 And shall not uncircumcision which is by nature, if it fulfill the law, judge thee, who by the letter and circumcision dost transgress the law?

28 For he is not a Jew, which is one outwardly; neither is that circumcision, which is outward in the flesh:

29 But he is a Jew, which is one inwardly; and circumcision is that of the heart, in the spirit, and not in the letter; whose praise is not of men, but of God.

Wow! I bet you did not even know that was in the bible did you? It’s amazing how a bible can clear up a BS religious education or false belief system, isn’t it?

“Being real” is in the heart and in the spirit, not in the letter, not in the law. I would rather know that I am right with God and will stand at the judgment 100% clean than to fake the whole darn world out and have everyone think: “Wow, what a wonderful person he is” (Inside I am lying like a dog!) “Wow, what a great man! Look at all those fine deeds he did. Gee, so upright, so clean and pure…” (And secretly inside my heart and life I am as rotten as the day is long… full of dead men’s bones and hypocrisy like a whited sepulcher.)

I mean, can you imagine that? Just imagine being a lying, scamming, thieving hypocrite liar, deceiver, slandering rotten person on the inside and faking everyone out on the outside and then having to die and stand judgment! Whoa Nelly! That would have to be the most horrible thing I could possibly think of.

So where are you? Where do you stand?

Are you a lying Twitter or Facebook scammer? Do you know deep in your heart that you’re full of it and faking everyone out?

Or are you real, honest, good, and upright and have a firm stiff moral compass?

Pride goeth before destruction and haughty spirit before a fall. Where is your heart?

Are you just a big, fat, lying pretender, hypocrite, faker actor like politicians? Or do you have any conscience, morals or honor left in you?

I hope you learned something. I hope you now have a deep understanding of just exactly what a hypocrite is. America is the land of hypocrites! There are tens of thousands of them everywhere. They are filling the churches and this may be sad and all, sure it is… but there are hundreds of thousands more hypocrites outside the church on the streets, than inside. Where do you stand?

I contend that you should have honor, integrity and a stiff moral compass; that you should step up for the sake of your family, friends, everyone you know. Everyone you ever meet. Be like the Knights of old speaking truth wherever you go and never sin against your conscience. Let the world be filled with hypocrites. Never be one.
